The History Channel recently produced a special that purported that Nostrodamus had predicted, along with the Mayan calendar, that there would be some type of transformational change, possibly the end of the world as we know it, slated for December 21st, 2012.

Today we are surrounded by countless images from television, movies, internet about the need for a romantic relationship.
Often times it seems that everyone else has a date. Even Christians (especially some of the sisters in the Lord) agonize over their single situation. They’re tired of being lonely, they want to feel cared for….let’s be honest - they want to be married! But when they look around they find that there is a lack of eligible men.

This Day in History-  The Sinking of the Titanic

On this day in 1912, the one of the greatest maritime disasters took place with the sinking of the RMS Titanic after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic.   

At nearly 900 feet long, and fitted with every luxury, it was considered a floating palace as it cruised on its maiden voyage from Southampton England to New York.   Over 1,500 people lost their lives when she sank.

This Day in History- March 20- 1852 “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” is Published.

Harriet Beecher Stowe, born in 1811, was the seventh child of Protestant clergyman Lyman Beecher.  For a number of years, she lived in Cincinnati Ohio, across the Ohio River from Kentucky, which was a slave state.  During her years there, she witnessed countless number of African Americans attempt to escape the institution of slavery, and was very familiar with the “underground railroad” of that day.

This Day in History- March 17- The Death of Saint Patrick

Leprechauns, Green beer, shamrocks, okay.  I get it.  It’s St. Patrick’s Day.   March 17th actually marks the death of Patrick, missionary, and now Patron Saint of Ireland.   The symbolism and events we now associate with the holiday seem to belie the genesis of the tradition.   Patrick wasn’t a leprechaun, didn’t drink beer, and he wasn’t even originally from the country. And, contrary to the apocryphal story, didn’t even “drive snakes” out of Ireland.

Are There Rules for Interpreting the Bible? Print E-mail

Some people say that you can use the Bible to support any position you want, simply by taking things out of context.  To a degree, this is true.  If someone is unfamiliar with the overall teaching of the Bible as a whole, they can be misled by an unscrupulous person seeking to support their "niche" doctrine or teaching.   Are there rules for interpreting the Bible actually in the Bible?  Actually, 'Yes!"
